Political Asylee : want to visit home, don't have avalid passport

I have been a political asylee and have had my greencard for 2 years now. However I wanted to visit home (my mother and rest of family is still there) but my passport from the country has expired and the embassy told me I cannot renew it. When i get RTD obviously i cannot travel back home, my question is if and when I do become a citizen (hopefully in a few years) can I use that passport to travel back home and meet my family again?

PS i am a dependent of an asylee, my father had applied for asylum.

Yes, you can, but you have to be careful if you expect to be targeted in your country of persecution.

Thanks for the reply. When I asked that, I was referring to me coming back to the States. Should I expect any issues when I return back and try to re-enter the states?

It's unlikely that you'll encounter trouble re-entering the US.
