Police Checks???

Hi Guys
I have a question about police checks. I understand the FBI thing, but read someplace that one needs to do a police check/report for every place outside the US that one has lived for over 6 months. When does one have to do this? My 485/140 are filed concurrently. I was out of the country off and on for 10 months, and came back for a few weeks to do the 140/485 filing. FP was done and LUD updated last month.
Many thanks

We are in the same situation. My lawyer explained that FBI fingerprints/background check will be done like before or after the interview (forgot when exactly). But I must bring police certificate to the interview with me. This rules exists for a long time, but it wasn't really implemented. Now USCIS is more strickt about it. Sheriff department, either county or city depending on the state regulation, can issue certificate for a small fee once they recieve your written request.

Checks

So i am assuming that if there is no interview, then its safe to say that a check is not required? Also if i maintained my residence while i was overseas (since i came back relatively regularly) i could say that i was mainly present in the US?
Thx

I'm not sure if I understand your question, but if you are going through adjustment of status, you will have an interview sooner or later. The certificate includes the places inside or outside of the US. I had to get the certificate from every place I lived in US (three states), as well as my home country.

Another bureaucratic legacy

If all the States you lived in are in the US, and they take your fingerprints and send it to FBI as well, then why cant the FBI verify that through the central fignerprint database that is connected to all State fingerprint systems.

Looks to me it is another old fashioned way to increase your misery and delay your adjustment.

You may be confusing consular interviews with AOS interviews. I never needed to provided any police certificates.

Thanks

Thanks guys
Per your responses, is it accurate to say -

1) If one is doing Counsular Processing then one must have a police certificate from every country that one has lived in, in excess of 6 months

2) If one is filing concurrently there may NOT be a requirement for police checks. Except if one is called in for an interview (some people have been) then police checks MAY be asked for?
Thanks
