Police Certificate - only if residence ?

Just a quick question on Police Record,

They only mention the places where you had an address BUT what if you worked for example in a country which was just outside of the place where you live.

I lived in France but worked just across the border in Switzerland. I suggest I only need Police Record for France as I never has address in Switzerland. is this correct ?
