what is the procedure to apply for a police clearance certificate in inida? my friend wants to apply for canadian pr in new delhi, india. he lives and works in india as well. what is the process to go through to get a police clearance? is there any specific format to get it in? who to approach? if anyone can give some inputs into this, it will be really great.

If you have contact with nearest police station to your residence then contact the senior inspector and he will write “ This is to certify that XYZ son of ABCD has nothing adverse against him in this police station. PI will sign and will stamp it with date and police station address (that should be the police station that cover your area) just informs them it is for job. If you tell them it is for Canada they will ask more bribe or will tell you to go to CID office fill up some form and pay some fees and then CID office will send the papers or enquiry to local police station and police constable will visit your house and then you visit local police station. Catch some one who knows to inspector of local pole station and you can get the no objection or police clearance letter in 1 day you have to give the chai pani

You can also apply at the local passport office

Actually just like in the US where you can apply at the nearest Indian Consulate or Embassy, similarly in India you can apply at the local passport office where your passport has been issued for a PCC. This is the better route. I know ppl who have done this for Canadian, US, & Aussie immigration.
Thanks.

thanks ginnu and texancanadian.

what does PCC stand for? Police Clearance Certificate? does all passport offices give the PCC? one just needs to go and ask for it? what is the procedure for that?

4 or 6 passport size photographs and some fees.

what does PCC stand for? Police Clearance Certificate?
--> Yes

does all passport offices give the PCC?
--> I think Yes.

one just needs to go and ask for it? what is the procedure for that?
--> In India, if you ask some passport agent, they can explain the procedure. As well as, you can do it by your own also. You have to apply for it and you need passport size 4 or 6 photographs. and some fee. Rs. 250 to Rs. 1000.(No clear idea).

The procedure is as below
1. You will apply for PCC in passport office.
2. Passport office will send those papers to your regional police head quarter.
3. Your regional Police head quarter will forward it to your area Police Chowki.
4. Your area police man will come to your home and confirm about you and check your criminal records in their record books. If nothing is there, area police will forward it back to regional police head quarter with 'No objection'.
5. Your regional Police head Quarter will send back to Passport office.
6. You have to visit Pasport office and collect your PCC.

Above process takes almost 1 month. But you can make it faster by keep tracking at regional police head quarter and local police chowki. Sometime needs some 'fuel' also.

This experience was in Ahmedabad. It can vary.
