POE immigration check no documents given back

Hi guys,

yesterday I flew into the US through JFK. I expected the process of going through the immigration to take much longer since they need to check the package and all that. What happened is that they took my fingerprints, asked for a signature and let me go. I was given back my passport only.

Was I supposed to receive anything else? How do I know what SSN they assigned me?

I am really confused. Is there any sort of online service for green card holders where you can see you SSN, your address and such?

You can go into a social security office to get your SSN if you need it before your card arrives.

For the GC, check your ELIS account - when it moves from "accepted" to "optimized" then it is in production and when it then moves to "closed" your GC will be in the mail. USCIS told me to expect about 45 days after entry. Another forum says current processing time is 5-8 weeks before you get it.

When you say took your fingerprints - I assume you mean both biometrically and the ink print that goes on the green card form? I am surprised they didn't check your package, ours was checked by the first officer and then we still went through secondary processing where the second officer did the form for the GC. Is your immigrant visa endorsed with an entry stamp?
 
Got my Visa yesterday at Bombay INDIA and how i have to wait for my graduation in 1 month time before i i can leave.

No that's your visa - ELIS is the site you use to pay the immigrant fee of $165. If you log in with the same username you used to pay the fee it will go straight to your case status.
