Hi, i'm working as junior scientist with univ of michigan and i'm a 100% full time non-tenured employee but my appointment is only for 9 months every year. I would like to know, is it possible for me to work legally for those 3 months with some different company full-time or part-time while still holding the job with the university? If yes then what would be the procedure? Do i have to take permission from univ. to work outside and what if univ. says that my salary is enough to support me for whole year? Does anybody know anything related to this ? Any help would be appreciated...Thanks.

What is your present visa status, OPT, H1/J1 etc???

Yes, you can work for different company.
Find out a sponser, ask them to file a Concurrent H1B on behalf you. So that you can get pay check legally from your school and the new company.
