Pls help: term limit of EAD when filing for GC

I got my green card and have been out of the immigration game for some time. My wife is now applying for employment based GC and became current due to dates becoming current.

My question is this:

1. Should she apply for EAD along with I485 even if she has about 9 months left on existing H1?

2. What is the term limit for EAD Card? In my time it was one year, but I had heard that USCIS had started issuing for three year terms? Is that true?

---------------------- better to apply EAD, AP, if her employer is ready to file H1 extensions then no need of EAD just file AP
