HI friends,
Have to rush to India. Have AP. Please advice what additional documents i will have to carry
--for departing
--while entering?

Any special advice / tips for me please

Thanks in advance.

*SIGH* An original question at last!

Obviously you haven't even bothered to use the Search functionality so kindly provided by Rajiv Khanna and immigrationportal.com! I suggest the next time you do use that, since that will definitely help answer all your basic questions and only post new threads when you have a doubt!

(FYI - AP does not need any documents to validate it, so technically you don't need to carry anything other than it. Research previous posts for a more detailed standby list!)

Have a safe trip!

Departing:
1. I-94
2. Original Passport

Arriving:
1. AP
2. Original Passport

Secondary documents (not needed but useful):
1. Original 485 Receipt
2. EAD card
3. EVL
4. Copies of above

If MARRIED ....

Then don't forget the Marriage Certificate. Keep it with you while departure and arrival.

Make sure you carry the original AP.. and keep it safely. If you are using EAD then carry it. A paystub or EVL is good to carry too.

Else everything I140 said as backup is nice to have... not need to have.

strange "sponsor" questions on AP entry (SFO)

recently (Nov. 12th), my wife and I returned from a short trip to India and used our second AP to enter. On all previous trips the AP entry had been a non-event. However, this time in the "Secondary Processing" room, the officer asked "Who is sponsoring you" when I said we are entering on APD and are currently in the AOS period. I stated AOS/APD and that I had copies of the I-485 receipt/I-140 etc if he wanted to see them since I did not understand the "Sponsor" part of the question. the officer looked even more confused and me and said "No i dont need to see anything except the APD but who sponsored you?". Again, I had no answer except asking him to look it up with the A-numbers since all details will be on his screen rather than me risking a wrong answer...

Anyone know what that officer was looking for ? After typing in the A-#s, he quickly stamped the I-94/passport etc and handed them back so we had no problems and the whole thing took less than 5 minutes....

Re: strange "sponsor" questions on AP entry (SFO)

Hi, wac-ed:

It is the "employer name" that they were asking. We were
also asked the same question when my wife and myself
entered the SFO on Nov.16, 2003. No big deal.

What do you answer if its a future employment case ?

1. The current employer name or
2. The future employer name.

Also remember to carry a letter from your employer stating that you are currently employed with your company. Even though this is optional, it turned out to be helpful in my case. This would answer and idiotic IIO's question "why are you coming back?"
