Hi,
I know this is a very tricky question but I hope someone here might shed some light.
A friend recently won DV2006. Her problem: she's mildly disabled. She can go to work and earn without problems but still some tasks are hard for her. For example, she cannot lift heavy things or see well in the dark.
A relative of hers lives with her and helps her with daily life. She even has a doctor's letter for that.
Now that she has won a GC, can she petition to bring that relative too?
What is necessary?
She hasn't mentioned her at the time of aplication for the lottery but hopes now is not too late.
Also can she be denied GC because of her condition?
Thank you very much on her behalf.

Hi there... I think that in that case, she has to get someone in the US to compromise to help her.

Maybe the Affidavit of support will be enough, probably she must consult a lawer...

But I don't think that she can include that relative in her petition, only hsbund/wife, and single children under 18 (or 21?).... don't remenber...

Saludos

Mario

I agree with mfloress..any relative doesn't apply, only immediate family: parents and siblings, not even grandparents. But good thing is she cannot be denied just based on her disability because that would be discrimination. If she can, she should get an advice from the lawyer. Maybe there is a loophole that we are not aware of. Good luck!

she would not be discriminated against based on her disability, but she still needs to prove that she will not become public charge and that she will be able to earn her living.
