I am currently married to someone with a j1 visa and I have a j2 visa. We are going to divorce. I want to return to the USA after my divorce. Can I apply for a visiting visa since I will no longer be dependant on my husbands j1? will I have to be subject to the 2 year residents requirement?

I was told that if I wanted to apply for a visiting visa after divorce that since Im no longer bound to my husbands j1 that it may be possible to get visa without having to stay in my country for 2 years before being granted the visiting visa. Im just trying to figure out if I sign the divorce papers am I actually stuck in my country for the 2 year residents requirement?
