I entered the USA on a J1 visa through Fulbright program and I would like to apply for humanitarian asylum. Am I allowed to apply, being a Fulbrighter and my program is funded by the USA. what about my visa can a J1 holder apply for asylum.
I came in U.S. with J-1 visa and applied for asylum when it had been already expired. I didn't have a 2-year residence requirement but I would assume that asylum status automatically waives this requirement. Just my guess....
