my wife\'s birth certificate is in Hindi and also does not have her name
Pl advise how to proceed

Ask a friend to Translate

and get it notarized. Get affidavits from her parents, relatives who can say that that BC is hers. For formats of translation / BC affidavits see INS web site FAQ on translation or immihelp.com

No Title

should it be notarized here in USA or in india where it was issued, further does it need to be on a stamp paper and needs to sworn before a magistrate
thanks

Translate and Affidavit

If you have birth certificate you need to produce it.
If not in english, you\'ll also have to have a translation of it by a certified translator to be safe.
If wife\'s name is not on the BC, you\'ll need an affidavit from parents or another relative noting that the person was born on that date, stating her full name at time of birth, and the parents names.

I had a similar scenario I followed the above at my lawyers suggestion. I do not have approval yet.

RFE

A colleague got an RFE for his wife\'s BC, which was in Hindi. He got it translated into English thru a certified translator in the US (as per his lawyer\'s suggestion). It was not a problem and the GC was approved with this certified translation.

You might also want to consider valuable suggestions provided by Jaxen and others.

Certified translator

Where do you find certified translator, does it matter if translation and notarization are done here versus done in India

Yellow pages

Look up yellow pages and call around. You\'ll find a translator in big cites.

That\'s what my colleague did.
