Hi
Please help. As mentioned in my earlier posts,
i recd FP notice but i will be away in india on the scheduled date. I
did go on Saturday to ins newark , but they flatly refused to
do it in advance. they told me to send the notice back with request for
rescheduling. I am afraid that will certainly push back my I-485 processing by several months.
Any suggestions what i can do ? roger, you mentioned
u were able to do it in advance ? should i try again and if so which day ?
did you do FP in a different center ?
I am already waiting for last 5 years for the GC and i cannot
cancel the trip at this stage.

Thanks for your help.

Actually, there may be more centers to take the FP than the one mentioned on the letter. Call the 800 number mentioned on the letter and navigate in the menu and find centers in zipcodes next to yours. Or go here: http://www.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/formsfee/finger/asc.htm. Application Support Centers are the offices that do FP. Try to go to a different center. Just go in and fillout the form etc for the finger print. For me, they did not even ask why I am doing it in GA even though the letter says go to Newark, NJ. Also I went atleast 10 days ahead of the date mentioned. In case they ask, just tell them you need to travel outside US due to family reasons and it would help if they can accept the finger prints now. Tell them, you will really really appricate their co-operation. Most of the times people are helpful if you talk to them properly. You do not need to beg them or anything. Just be calm and explain your situation.

I suggest a place which does not have too much population around it. More people go to centers close to them. Find one which is little bit remote. Mornings would be nice.
