If I (a citizen) apply for Green card for my parents , who are in US currently on a visting Visa:

1. Can they still travel on visiting Visa.
2. If they stay here till the GC gets approved, Do they have to apply for Visiting Visa extension, and if so will it cause any problems.

Thanks for your input.

the moment you get a receipt for the adjustment of status from USCIS their visitors visa becomes invalid. they are then considered 'aos pending'. if they want to travel within usa, they are free to (except maybe PR, Hawaii, i think...don't know for sure though). if they want to travel outside they have to apply for AP. they do not have to apply for extension. if they are close to being out of status or are already out of status as of right now their overstay is forgiven. for them to travel outside america and re-enter they should not be out of status for more than 180 days, otherwise they are at risk of getting either a 3 year or 10 year ban.

No. Once you file I-485, the B visa is invalid

The application for B visa extension will most probably be denied as they are applying for an immigrant visa and a nonimmigrant visa at the same time which doesnt make sense. If they need to travel while their I-485 is pending, they need to apply for AP (I-131) provided they have not overstayed their non-immigrant visa at any point of time before they filed I-485

Thanks for your input.
