Please help: Police certificate from Canada

Has anybody obtained a PCC from Canada?

Based on my inquiries - there are two types of clearance issued by the RCMP:

1. A name check certificate confirming no criminal record.

OR

2. A fingerprint check

#1 takes only 1 week and #2 takes 90 days! I am expecting my interview in about 6-8 weeks. Has anybody done just the name check (#1) from RCMP and gotten through CP interview? Or is the fingerprint check mandatory.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

Name check is sufficient for Montreal CP. If the name check comes up with a hit you need to do a fingerprint-based check.

Thanks for the reply Prithis

I am doing CP through Islamabad but my wife is Canadian. It is actually for her that I need the PCC.

I am assuming that if name check works for Montreal CP - it should work for Islamabad as well.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, Could you provide the RCMP contact info for Name Check?

I could not find it from their website...

THanks greatly!

We didn't get the name check done directly from RCMP. We went through this service called, "International Fingerprinting Services of Canada". They have several offices in the Toronto Area - and are listed in the phone book. Even though their name suggests they do only fingerprinting - they do name check PCC as well. Alternatively you can contact your local police station in Canada and they can help you out as well. You need to appear in person to present a photo ID verifying that you are the same person for whom the name check is being requested.

Hope this helps.

Name check not enough according to...

Thanks Zaye for the info. I got it from Montreal's RCMP website as well.

However, at the same time, I contacted my employer's attorney (whose firm does the filing for me), this is a copy-paste of their response:

"Based on the information in the Packet 3, the only acceptable police certificate for former residents of Canada is the certificate issued by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Ottawa, Ontario. This is the certificate that requires fingerprints to be completed and submitted to the Commissioner, RCMP. I don't think that other certificate you refer to will be acceptable."

THis is very disappointing and confusing for me. Do you guys have an idea where this is from? I don't have any P3 documents. They are in the hands of the attorney.

Henry:

I think there is no clear cut solution to this issue. I do know that the guidelines for CP at Montreal state that for former residents of Canada fingerprint verification is required and that for current residents a name check is OK.

But on the other hand, I have heard/read about people (former residents) getting through with just name check as well.

This situation is even less clear when you are processing CP through a non-canadian consulate (i.e. other than Montreal) as we are. We have decided just to get name check certificate and leave it at that - we simply do not have time to get the fingerprint one done before our interview.

The name check certificate clearly says - "For immigration/visa purposes" on it - so I am hoping that it will be enough.

Good luck.
