Hello,

I'm trying to understand this update to my case.

Please see the timeline in my signature.

I received the following email from CIS today

"On September 11, 2007, we transferred this case to our LINCOLN, NE location to conduct the interview that is a standard part of processing this I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS. You will be sent a notice when the interview is scheduled, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, call customer service. We process cases in the order we receive them. You can use our processing dates to estimate when this case will be done. This case has been sent to our LINCOLN, NE location. Follow the link below to check processing dates. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register."

Help me understand the following,
  • My wife's application is still pending, i.e. she didn't get this notification.
  • When in the overall process does this interview take place? Is it before/after/concurrent with the name check?
  • Do all applicants get called for an interview, or did I get lucky?
  • Finally, why Lincoln, NE? I live in Florida.

Thank you

In employment cases interviews are random unless there are reaons in your case that call for an interview.. example if you were arrested you most likely wil have an interview or there are holes in legal status (these are just examples).

It is usually the primary who gets called in..derivatives generally donot (but hey this is uscis/ins.. anythings possible).

Interviews run sperately from name check.. at the end of your interview they could say that name check is still pending and you have wait until then or if everything is done they approve and stamp your passport right then and there..

Lincoln, NE vs Florida.. dunno *shrug* ..it's uscis/ins

mwalam is correct to an certain extend. but these days they setup an interview for almost all applicants. to be honest, i havent seen a interview waiver since september 2001.
but dont worry, the interview is going through the papers you have submitted and checking some of the original papers like birth ceritificate, degrees and ect... as long as everything is in place and the officer is not in an faul mood, it is just a routine process.

[*]the simply transfered your file either because it is the closest location for the interview or they cant cope with their amount of work. either way the next paper you will receive should be interview appointment.
[*]you better pray to god your name check is done. they can interview you eventhough your name check is not ready. if name check is done, and you pass the interview, you just get the approval right there. if not, they say they will send you a result as soon as the name check is done.
[*]no, almost %100 get interviewed these days
[*]they transfered it to Nebraska Service Center. for the past two years, immigration has been working like gypsies. moving files and filing locations from one place to another. once any service center processes your application, the file will be sent to your local office for the final step which is interview.

I hope i answered your question

Thanks all for the responses.

I don't think I have anything to be worried about, I was just curious as to why they decided to call me, the dependent, and not my wife, and it is an employment based case.

Anyhow, we'll cross that bridge when we get there.... I'm focused on trying to get them to issue me an advance parole document... it's been pending for over 110 days at TSC.

Thanks again
