I have a pending domestic violence case in court. If convicted, will this disqualify me for citizenship? I am due to apply for Citizenship next year (April).

Does a conviction result in denial of citizenship?
Does a conviction lead to deportation of Permanent Resident?

I feel pretty sorry for myself and family. sad!

Thank you.

Please post this in Citizenship forum to get more responses.

I have read in citizenship forum about this kind of charge. I think its a deportable crime. If convicted, you may be deported to your country.

In case if its not a deportable crime, then you cannot file for citizenship until you can show good conduct for 5 years in a row. So, you will have to wait until this time comes.

Consult a very good attorney like Rajiv/Murthy.

This is serious. Talk to a good lawyer as suggested. I do not know if this is deportable which is serious but do know that it can have repurcussions for citizenship.

If you are convicted of this crime then you will be deported not if but when the USCIS finds out. I would do everything i can in my power not to get convicted or have it dropped to some kind of a petty theft type charge. Consult a good lawyer. I would also ask Johnnycash (member of this forum)about this as he has alot of knowledge about immigration and criminal law.

Best of luck
