My 6th year of H1B will expire in Jan 21, 2007. I do not plan to extend my status and want to find out the last day that I could legally stay in the United States.

I did some research on this forum and received mixed answers about grace period after H1B expired. Some ppl claimed there should be "10 days" after H1B expired, but others claimed that 's old news and there will be "No grace period" at all.

However, even if the 10 days grace period after I94 expires is true, I am still confused, My I94 expired almost 10 years ago btw. I came as tourist, changed my status to student (I20), after graduated from college, changed my status to H1B visa. Therefore, Can I stay 10 more days after my H1B expires?

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

(sorry for the long post)

I found this on the internet, but that was posted back in 2004. Is this still valid? Please advise!!

From Murthy.com

If one's H-1 is expiring after 6 yrs, can he get 60 days grace period to stay in the country and then leave?

Attorney Murthy : A person on an H1B status has 10 days before the start of the H1B and 10 days at the end of the H1B status to stay and wrap up matters, pack, and depart the U.S.
