Please Help!! Confused!!

Hi there!

I recently was selected for further processing in the 2014 DV Lottery.
I've been reading quite a few threads but now i'm just completely confused about it all.. (pardon my ignorance)
1. What does 'Current' mean?
2. How do you know if your confirmation number is higher or lower? ( mine is 2014OC000003XX)
3. What am I looking for on the Visa Bulletin?
4. I sent my forms to Kentucky 2 weeks after status check. (sent 20th May) What is the usual time frame in hearing back from the Kentucky Consulate.
Please help clear up some of this info!! Much appreciated!!

Sincerely

Ally 'Confused' :)

1. Current (when talking about the visa bulletin) means all remaining case numbers are eligible for interview. It can also mean when your number is eligible for interview because the VB has opened up your range.
2. The case numbers are assigned per region. Yours is for DV2014 (2014), Oceana (OC) then the number for yours is 300 to 399. OC numbers for DV2014 go up to about 2500. So yours is "low" which is a good thing because your number will be current sooner (probably November-ish).
3. Toward the bottom of the VB there are two tables listing what number rangers are being processed, everyone is looking at the second table which is the prediction/advanced notice for the coming month. For Oceana they just went to 1600 as a prediction for August on the July bulletin (which is to do with DV2013 - not your year yet). That means anyone with a number less than OC 1600 can get an interview. So - as I said, your will come up pretty quickly as soon as DV2014 processing begins (October 1, 2013).
4. They don't send a receipt. You can call to confirm they received the forms, but nothing else will happen until September/October. Around then you'll be looking at the VB and once you see your range is called (as I said, probably November) you will be able to check the status check website and that will give you details of your appointment.

Hope that helps start your understanding....

Thank you so much for your help!!! I do have a much better understanding :)
Will they send me an email or anything about when my interview is or I have to check on the Entry Status check??
Thanks again!!!

They may send you an email (if you supplied one on the 122/230 form). However, I'll bet by that time you will be counting down the days and watching the visa bulletin - so you'll know - trust me on that!

Sorry one more thing!
Im freaking out now...

Should have read all these posts before i posted my forms or they need to make instructions really clear for the dummies like me!!
I did not send the selection letter with attached Barcode to the Kentucky and I didn't write my CN on the top of any of my forms ( I know the forms have a section to write the CN number though)

I just emailed them the barcode!!!
Is this badddddd :(

It's not really bad - but not brilliant. Without the barcode they are probably trying to match you against your case number. They might have done that or they might have given up since you were naughty! ;-)

No real problem though. Give them a call and ask if they have received your forms and opened a file for you. If needed you can send a whole new set of forms. Before you do that (send new forms) go through other posts here to make sure you didn't make any other mistakes. A lot of people do - I know I have and will send corrections soon. The new forms will replace the old forms and you have plenty of time - so take your time and make sure it is correct.

Don't panic - it won't cause you a problem.

Just called the consulate.

Good news for anyone if you were a little silly like me!
They said if you didn't include your barcode letter that it will not effect your case

PHEW!

I'm glad you called. Now sit back and enjoy the waiting.....

Lucky you, AllyJane! With that low a CN, you won't have to wait long at all. November for sure, perhaps even October, if the cut-off is high enough.

The September Visa Bulletin will be very interesting and exciting for you. They'll publish it in early August and it will show September's cut-off numbers (in Section B, for the last of the DV2013s), and October's (in Section C, for the first of the DV2014s). You'll be current, if your CN is below the published cut-off number.

If your number will be current, they'll email you a few days later telling you to check online (at ESC) for your interview date and time, and other instructions.

All the best. There's a DV2014 Australian winners thread you might find useful, with other Aussies in the same boat. I found the DV2013 one very useful, and a great place to share info and support each other.
