Please give us the process breakdown

I have been reading these posts and got confused: Code 1, Code 2, Bio???? Can anyone just break the whole process down in simple words? I just got fingerprinted in September. It said on my appointment letter Code 1. Is this the code everybody is talking about? What and when is Code 2 then? Also I haven't been requested to submit the medical form. At what stage does the medical kick in? After approval or before? Will there be an interview after you get approved? Do they take a picture to be put on GC?

Thankyou! :)

1) You submit your I-485 and you get a Receipt with a date, we will call it RD.
2) USCIS sends you request for fingerprinting, also called Bio Code 1.
3) USCIS captures your fingerprints, sends to FBI for review.
4) FBI reviews the FP and sends USCIS that they are clear
5) USCIS sends you a RFI for Medicals, updated biographic form.
6) USCIS receives your reponse for RFI and puts you in a queue as to "Initial Processing Done"
7) You move up the queue and a BIO CODE 2 is requested which is one single print of Index Finger & your picture(these go on your actual green card)
8) USCIS then puts your file in a queue for the officer to review. Name check is sent out to make sure you are not a terrorist.
9) Name Check received(done)
10) Officer reviews your case, decides to approve it or ask for RFE(Request for Evidence).
11) You reply to the RFE, If #2(see above) was done 15 months ago at this stage, Officer sends a BIO Code 1 again since FP expire in 15 months.
a)If BIO wasn't done at this stage, Officer sends a BIO CODE 3(COde 1+COde 2)
12) Approval by the USCIS, your online status changes to "APPROVED"
13) Approval letter in your hand in 3-4 days.
14) GC in hand in 2-3 weeks.
15)You live happily ever after and stop visiting this board.

confused

i have received bio code 3, according to you bio code 3 (code1 +code2), i don't have to expect code 1 and code 2?

Hi, Want, you are so kind and helpful!
In fact, you always "give" instead of "want".
My circumstances is almost the same as yours, except my ND Aug. 2000 (and I will have my code 1 done Nov. 16).

Good luck to you and all here.

Hey WANT
The previous poster is right...you're awesome.
I have a problem with the last post though...I'll keep visiting the forum even when I get the plastic. :)

It is a great description of the process in general, but I think the BIO codes might be different for some of us. My RD is 07/2005 and I did my BIO Code 3 in 10/2005.

I've never received anything else from USCIS, not RFI, RFE, nothing at all. So I think sometimes they send different BIO codes for reasons still unknown to me.

RFI was sent mostly for people with earlier than 2003 dates since USCIS had no clue what they had in their queue...Not everyone gets a RFE.
