Please Clarify This on EAD!

Hi Guru,

I have posted a question on another thread, but I did not get any reply yet. I hope I could get some responses from here.

1. Does the paper-based filing for 765 EAD need fingerprint before approval?
2. Some say YES, other say NO, I mean paper-based because I know e-filing for EAD is required to do the FP before approval. Anyone can clarify this?
3. If paper-based filing needs FP, how could you schedule this? FP notice on your receipt which indicates you need call for FP appointment or you receive a seperate notice for FP?

If you have applied for EAD through paper-based, please provide your inputs here.

Thanks for your time.

My wife and I both filed paperbased EADs in on August 31, 2005 and fingerprinting was NOT required of me or my wife to get approved. I don't know if that is the rule, but that was our experiences.

Thanks bjorn for your inputs. Sb. on this forum said he did not do FP either, but on his EAD there is a spot marked 'No fingerprint available" and he said he has not done any FP yet, even for 485.
Did you do your FP for 485 before your EAD? Did you have FP on your EAD or spot marked "No FP available"?

Thanks again.

I Paper filed both times for an EAD and both times I DID NOT have to do a fingerprint. It said no fingerprint available on the cards. One was done before my fingerprints for the I-485 and one was done after.

I also had FP for 485 done before I got my EAD Card. But EAD Card specifies "no fingerprint available". So I do not hink you need to have FP done for EAD.

Thanks gurus for your inputs. Now the confusion seems clear.

1. Paper-based filing does not need FP for EAD approval with 'No FP available' on the card, but this is for our EB-based applications.
2. E-filing needs to have FP for approval, this makes sense since CIS needs photo and FP for e-filers. Not sure EB category of e-filing needs picture only for their appointment or for both pics and FP?
3. Family-based and other categories seem to require FP for their EAD approval, these EAD card with their thumb print on. I have some friends who are not EB category, they did FP before their EAD approval and with their thumb print on the card.

One more question on EAD

There is one more question on EAD. I was told by someone on this forum that if you renew your EAD, you need attach the copy of previous EAD mailer and cut out the mailer of the EAD along with other docs.

What is the copy of previous EAD mailer? I speculate it is the sender's (CIS) name and address, or sth. more?

What does it mean by 'cut out the mailer of the EAD'?

Can anyone explain this?
Thanks.

you dont need copy of previous mailer. I sent without that and mine was approved.
however, you can send copies of front and back of last ead.

fast_gc_seeker,

Thanks for your reply, but what is the 'mailer'? Does it refer to the CIS and its address, or something else here? Help me out from this dumb question.

The EAD card comes in a sheet which says what this card is about. About top 1/3rd of the sheet has this 'mailer' with a bar code on this. The msg there says that cut this out and send with your renewal application. This would help in fast renewal.
I think the bar code helps them to just scan and renew faster instead of had-keying. I got my renewal in less than a week and I think sending the 'mailer' helped.
