Please advise---- RFE lost due to change of Address

Hi All,
USCIS has issued a RFE for my wife but has sent it to an old previous address. The post office at the old address does not forward federal mails with "return service requested" endorsement. Instead it sends it back to the sender. My wife and I spoke to the customer service rep at USCIS about it. She says that a copy will not be sent to the new address and that we will have to wait for 30 days and call them back again to raise an inquiry. Sounds preposterous to me but its true.
My question to you all Gurus is that, is there any way to know the content of the RFE?
Is there a way to receive a copy/duplicate before the 30 day wait-in-period?
It’s agonizing to know that there is a RFE. But the worst is when you do not know the content of the RFE.
Anyone in a similar situation?
Any help or advise in this regards would be highly appreciated.
Thanks a lot!

What about your Lawyer?

Wouldn't your lawyer get a copy of the notice, they do get copies for everything else.

Thanks All for your response. Yes, I did speak to the lawyer to get a copy. Apparently, there is wait-in period of 30 days for that too!
Any other suggestions?

are you trying to say that ur lawyer didn't rcv RFE fom INS?? He shud've rcvd it already.

If you have a lawyer representing your case, RFE's are sent to lawyers and not you... Is your lawyer representing your wifes case or not???

RFE Lost

My lawyer was responsible until filing of I-485. He said categorically that his representation would be until I-485/EAD/AP filing. All the corespondences/documents from USCIS have been coming to my address since September 2002. He said he could help on goodwill basis but with a fee, obviously. I have paid a hefty fees for his services until I-485 was filed and I-140 was approved. After that he said that I was on my own.
He continues to say he has not received any RFE. Currently he is on vacation for 15 days. So I am back to square one.
Appreciate all your responses.
Please keep me posted.
Thanks

Sounds weird to me .....

485 is the stage where you need an attorney to make sure things are correct and RFEs are responded to etc etc.

Maybe he's just trying to make some quick $$$ by asking you to pay for just faxing the RFE copy ?
Not sure if your 485 had a G-28 attached.
From your mail it looks like the lawyer was only responsible for filing the 485 .... not for handling issues in it -- so most likely a G28 was NOT attached to your 485 and related docs.

In that case RFE won't go to ur lawyer - sad but true.
If G28 was indeed attached, RFE would be sent to the attorney as well - just pay and get it from him (sickening)

RFE lost due to change in address

Hi Max2k1,
I guess you were right. My G-28 was never filled out and surprisingly the lawyer never mentioned anything about it at the time of filing I-485, around 25 months back.
So what should be my next step. Please advise.
Thanks

Here is what I think you can do:

1. If it has been less than 30 days, wait for that time mark.

2. If it has been at least 30 days, call the 800 number, provide your case number/s and explain what the issue is. They will re-issue you the RFE.
It happened to a colleague of mine, and he got his re-issued RFE within 4-5 business days from the day he called the number.

best,
