Once the adjudicating officer approves an I-485 petition at the interview, the officer electronically transmits the approval notice to the green card production facility. The plastic green card is then produced using the biometric identifier which was already collected electronically at the fingerprint centers. This enables the production and delivery of a green card in about a week.
Apparently, the new process is already in place in Minnesota and is expected to be the norm nationwide. I must confess that all this sounds too good to be true.
