PIO then OCI - Is this the best route?

It is taking a long time for obtaining OCI. With that fact, it is safe to apply for visa for India and then apply for OCI. However, if you apply for PIO then obtaining OCI can be done by paying only additional $40/. This is not the case with other Indian visas. Whatever money that you paid fo obtaining visa is lost and you pay additional $380/ for OCI.

Also, it makes sense to apply for Renunciation Certificate and PIO simultaneously. Most of the documents are same and the process is also same.

I have seen the trackers for OCI but I do not find much information on tracking PIO. Does anyone have any experience? Is there a link to thread that you can provide me on PIO? (I am looking for PIO tracking not the information on process.)

I sent in my OCI8 packet on September 5. I had the OCI in my hand on October 17. It did not take 4-6 months. Of course, YMMV.

Did you apply through Houston,TX? That is the one that takes more time.
