PIO card validity after US passport expires

My kid got a new passport after her old passport expired, but her PIO card has reference to old passport number.

What is the procedure to include her new passport number in the PIO card

Here is the CGISF instruction for this: http://www.cgisf.org/pio/pioservices.html#hta - see the bullet before the last sentence. If you are under the jurisdiction of some other consulate (or DC embassy), check their specific instructions before applying.

Is it really required

Is it really required to include new passport number on the PIO card if I cary her old passport along with the new passport.

You can get new passport number endorsed on PIO Card by paying fees to Indian Consulate/embassy. Why you want to pay them? Take both the passport (expired and new) and PIO card when go to India and no need pay the Indian consulate.
 
my kid's u.s passport expires in 15 days. and has a PIO card. I am currently in india with a u.s passport. how do i go about renewing her u.s passport here in india.. how long does it take and whats the fees...
any help would be greatly appreciated
