Physical residency requirement

My wife has been a permanent resident in US for the past 5 years. She was outside US for not more than 9 months collectively in the past 5 years. She has never been outside US on a single vacation for more than 180 days. So essentially she qualifies to apply for N-400 per the residency reqs.

Having said that, she has been outside US currently (on a long vacation) since December 3, 2004. She will be returning to US in couple of days (before 180 days). Based on this, if my wife were to plan to visit India again this year, since she has already used up 150 days of vacation this year, does she get to stay for only 30 more days outside US without impacting her immediate potential to apply for naturalization OR can she stay for 180 more days

thanks for the help

The 180 days is 'per vacation' not per year. Trips cannot be longer then 180 days.

I am pretty sure of this.

If this is not correct we would all welcome notification.

Not more than 180 days per absence, not more than 30 months of absence during 5 year period. No other limits.
