Physical presence

Thanks, Caramuru

You are fine so far Semi... don't worry, just be prepared to explain the reason for your trips, if ever you're asked.

Consecutive trips loosely mean a series of back-to-back or frequent trips of say less than 6 months duration which would arouse the suspicion of the IO that you are up to something not kosher outside the US, like taking up a job with non American company or running a business. Of course, the IO will take into account your personal profile. Say, if you are of working age and in your employment data there are gaps of employment in the US and you are disappearing very often, what do you think this implies? The IO will ask you to explain and provide documentary evidence of not breaking residence which would delay decision on your application, etc. or even get disapproved especially if he doesn't like you for whatever reason and he feels that you're trying to outsmart the system.

I think I might be fine in that case - I have pay stubs to prove continuous employment for almost 8.5 yrs. As you said, if I am given an opportunity, I will explain the trips to India and Australia (to meet my GF, and siblings respectively)

Thanks, again.

4 years did not work - 890 days outside US

After 8 months I got my GC I quit my job as I was bored working in corporate america and wanted to do some soul searching. I earned some good money so I did not have the need to work.
I did not work for 4 years. 2005-2009
I those 4 years I made 5 five month trips.
Total days outside the US 890.
None of the trips were back to back.
5months in India - 4 months in US and back in India.
While in the US did some Volunteer work and did vacationing.
Never broke the Physical & continuous residence.

Started working from Jan09 and paying taxes.
Maintained the same address close to 9 years.

I am interested to see how this process will unfold for you, but that's quite interesting. One thing for sure is that each case is different....

Need Help:

I am almost ready to apply for Citizenship August 09. I have been out of US with the N470 approved.
In 2007 I flew each month to Europe and back since I negotiate contracts for a big US company.
In 2008 they asked me to stay in assignment there and got approved for N470, I fly every 3 months back to US.

I have more than 30months continues and also have my salary paid in US in US bank. As well I pay US tax as Resident and State taxes.

I have a car which I paid regularly till last month after payments were done. I continue to us and Pay US Credit/Debit Cards.

I intend to return after my assignment is over but not sure when this will be.

ANY Advice how are my chances on receiving Citizenship.
