Guys,

I open this thread for suggestions about:

1: Contacting Newspapers, National, State, regional, influential, ethnic, etc.

Note: The Philadelphia Inquirer is running a series of articles about post 9/11 and one of them is Immigration. the Press cares. please list here the names of the newspapers and contacts like web address, editors, e-mails, etc.

2: Tv/radio. Please name interesting programs and their contacts, like name of host or talk show, and their web, e-mail contacts.

Cheers.

hello guys,

We need a way to keep important threads alive!
1: Immigration firms. Edison did a great job.
2: Congress& OTHER Government agencies like GAO. dsatish is working on it. We need to agree as to how to contact them.
3: TV/Radio/Newspapers. I provide several links. Before we contact them we need a SPECIFIC form of our problem with flare and flavor to send to these people. This should have more tone , more anger expressed. Please provide your inputs.

Ask Immigrant Organizations to sign petition

We should start a signature campaign and collect several thousands of signatures from Indians and other immigrants settled here already and who are already GC holders and citizens. Most of our conuntrymen will be more than happy to help and they would also be heard of as they do cast votes.

If we have a petition ready then we can go to our local Indian organizations, temples etc to solicit signatures. I would be willing to collect several signatures.

These can then be sent to local Senator/Congressman with copies to the White House/BCIS.

(I have been part of such campaigns for other causes and it really helps !)

Not to pour cold water,, but do you really think that you have a realistic chance of changing the system by these petitions? Dont you think Rather if you hired a lobbyist in Washington you had a better chance? Did the IRS change their buerocratic system after all the constant bashing it received/receives from all the media/lawmakers etc?

Again, its commendable what you are trying to do but also on the same token,, keeping your hopes checked with reality would be imperative. ;)

Good idea to lobby the congress people. As someone pointed out earlier, it is also a good idea to lobby the big companies to lobby the congress.

Press + Media

As i said many times, going to Press and Media is not a good effort. If the goal is to reach the congress men, why don't we concentrate on that effort. Let's get there directly than indirectly. Let's not expect that our stories will bring tears to people (including the congress men) and that will influence congress men to pass new laws. NO. Just follow the stright approach. Talk to congress men.
Cinta, i am not ridiculing your idea, but just giving my point of view. Please try to take another look at this idea. If my views are ridiculous, then just go ahead with your plans.

Don't underestimate the press/media

I think using the press/media as an additional resource to voice our concerns is a great idea. I was thinking of writing to the NYT op-ed column a few days ago but decided against it as I thought, given the "jobless economic recovery" and some anti-immigrant feelings among the general public due to outsourcing, offshoring etc, it would attract negative attention.
But, you know, if we can raise points such as SS, Medicare contributions, I see a fairly good chance of us being seen as victims rather than looters of jobs!

Your decision was correct. I am also worried about this. That's why i constantly advise against this route.

Cinta

You are accusing me of not taking others suggestions while that is what exactly you are doing. If this is the type of replies you give when others give suggestions, then i am sorry to say this, but this will be my last reply to your postings. I ALSO DO NOT WANT YOUR REPLIES ANYMORE.

dsatish,

THIS IS MY LAST REPLY TO YOU. YOU ARE UNQUALIFIED FOR THIS TYPE OF WORK. If you take it personally, let be it. Frankly, you are not contributing. Your opinion about the Media or other subjects before is POOR to say the least. GOODBYE>>>>>>>>>>

Cinta and dsatish!!

Grow up guys and learn to work in a group. These childish outbursts are not good. Suggestions and criticisms are part of this process. Please kiss and make up now, for the sake of this forum.

wheresmahgreen,

You should not have any reservations going to the press. Just make public what you want to send to them so people can provide input. There are several ways we can do this.

1: Write our own personal story.
2: Send them the petition and make them aware of the problem.

Either one can be done by contacting the general contact provided for the particular newspaper, TV/Radio program or by directly contacting a SPECIFIC editor/staff writer whose e-mails can be found from the original contact information. We could also REPLY to them when an immigration article appears in the paper. In this reply we can explain our cause.

There is no doubt that the PRESS is powerful in this country (remember Nixon and Watergate)and we should use it in our advantage; at least try.
Now with the 9/11 anniversary and the 87 billion for the President's agenda there are plenty of immigration articles and budget ones in a lot of papers.

Cinta,
Promise me you won't get personal anymore. Let us focus on the message and not the mesenger.
Come on now, kiss and make up for the sake of this forum.

Yes

cinta you got points

- if ( BIG IF ) you go to Media, it will attract n*congress men and senators , besides many others.
how many congress men can you meet otherwise directly ? one , four, or max 10 ? iTs not practical

- also about dSatish... wants to grab leadership... its is clearly visisble the way he writes...

dSatish if you want that... come up with your own ideas ..:D

I am sorry to see

another conflict on our way to fight for our own benefits.

I just want to express my opinions.

I agree that press is important and powerful. "A lie repeated three times will become a truth". At least people believe it's a truth. In our situation we are telling the truth. We are giving to the country much more than taking from it. How can we let people know the truth if we never tell? People are scared of immigration because some media are telling lies. Some politicians are against immigration for their own political agenda.

Petition is one way to fight our course. Contacting congressmen is the other. Yet, the media is another revenue we can explore.

Personally I admire whoever's effort to all these measures. We have nothing to lose if we go to the press.

I like to see 1) our current petition out ASAP, 2) the petition to congressmen finalized soon, 3) our story publicized through the press, 4) ..... and more.

Let's work together for our own benefit and for all GC seeker after us.

dandaa,

This is not about getting personal. When somebody dedicates his time for the general cause he should be appreciated or when more information is needed to ask for it. There is a pattern here.

1: Petition letter disagreements and formats. No valid basis.
2: Request for removal of Congressional Bills from the thread. No valid basis.
3: Poor Advice to people wrt Media. No valid basis.
4: Fears and more fears about backslash! No valid basis even if you are an IT professional.
5: Suggestion to trim my story by a few lines..that was about twenty. No valid reason.

That is why we need to establish a council made up of 4-5 people and make decisions, strategic ones.
I would nominate EDISON to preside over this council.
As far as the Press, it all amounts to what one knows. The Press brought down Presidents in this country as some may know or not. it is an inseparable part of the society / country /government. Anything and everything goes to the PRESS (see AILA letters and statements). There is no need or fear to hide anything, but we need to go to them not the other way around. Hope you got it.

cinta and dsatish, peace here - I agree that you have contributed a lot to the petition. Why don't you use diplomatic words while disagreeing with others? dsatish, if you think this idea will not work, don't go with this. Let cinta handle this and gather all the people. There might be some who agree with him and they all can work together.

I personally think that the media is very powerful and if we can get our point across in the right way, we can succeed.

YJay and all others that believe in the Power of the Media: le us familiarise ourselves with the whole process. Here is a good reference explaining the HOW TO from AILA's webpage. Click on the PDF ToolKit.

http://www.aila.org/contentViewer.aspx?bc=10,2554

Next steps:

1: Identify important personalities in the Media besides their legal/immigration staff.

Example: TIME Joe Klein, etc
FOX Shawn Kennedy, Alan Combes,O'reilly
These people are appearing on TV and the Radio and also write in Newspapers.

2: Decide on a spokesperson (lawyer), willing to appear on TV/radio and face the demons. This may involve expenses.
