Its your choice but honestly with a PD of August 2004 you have better chances to reach I 485 stage in a shorter time period. January 2006 will be very long depending upon whether filed in EB2 or EB3.
Do note, I had a PD of Dec 2003 with RIR LC approved in Dec 2005, but still went on with a new PD of PERM application in May, 2006. I have both approved now but still chose to be with latter PERM approved date.
