Hi all
The list of documents required it says i
have to get police certificate from local authorities in my country wherever i have been for over 6 months and when i was past 16 years.

My spouse has moved around a lot since she was 16 since her father's job was transeferable. So now will she have to go to all those places to get pcc?She is presently not in the US.

In my case is it sufficient to get a pcc from a Indian consulate here in US or do I have to get from my home country too? i have not stayed there for the past 7 years.

Can somebody reply in detail regarding this matter.

Thanks

As far as I know your wife has to get PCC from every country where she have been for 6 months (even though packet 3 says one year) or more after age 15 (ie. to include age 16).

Your wife also need to get PCC from the Passport Office and local Police authorities in India where she is currently living.

You can get the PCC from CGI in USA if you are still in US and it is valid for 6 months.

Guru's can give more details ...

Q) My spouse has moved around a lot since she was 16 since her father's job was transeferable. So now will she have to go to all those places to get pcc?She is presently not in the US.

Where is your spouse now? Is she in india right now? Since her 16, which all places she has visited. I mean, did she go out side India?

If she has been only in india since her 16, then you can do the following:

- Get a PCC from regional passport office (where her passport was issued). If her passport was issued after 1997, she will get it in one day. Otherwise it may take upto a month (There will be enquiry again). You need to take the misc. application form and 4 photos + 300 Rs. fee for applying for PCC at RPO. The application form has 2 personal perticular forms also that need to be filled.
- A PCC from local police authorities where she is living now. You can get it from SP office or commissioner office. You don't need from all the places where she lived since her 16 age (assuming that she satyed at current place atleast since more than an yr.)

Q) In my case is it sufficient to get a pcc from a Indian consulate here in US or do I have to get from my home country too? i have not stayed there for the past 7 years.

A) It is sufficient and you don't need to get one from your home country.

{If the places she moved around are all in India, she needs
to get PCCs from the local police authorities in each of the
places + one PCC from the Passport Office where her passport
was issued.

(I know this is a big pain, and do look for other posts
where people can give suggestions how they went about
this )

If the places she lived are foreign countries, then she would
need PCCs for each of the countries, if the length of stay is
1 year or more. Some claim this is 6 months, so you would
be better by sending the Consulate a specific email about
this and follow their guidance}

{In your case just one PCC from the local Indian Consulate
is sufficient}

Thanks to you all for the info. I got the following info from the website of American Consulate in Chennai from which it is clear that i need to get a pcc from here in US.
And my spouse needs to get one from the regional passport office and one from the local authority where she is presently residing.
{{{{All Indian IV applicants age 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local passport office. Applicants whose Indian passport was issued within the past six months may present just the passport office police certificate, and need not obtain additional police clearances.
-- applicants over age 16 whose passports were issued more than six months previous to visa application must also obtain a police clearance from the district police office serving the applicant’s place of residence.
-- Indian passport holders applying for visas outside India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they have no criminal record.
-- Non-Indian Iv Applicants Residing In India Should Obtain Police Certificates From The District Police Station Serving Their Area Of Residence.
-- Indian Police Certificates Are Not Available For Foreign (Non-Indian) Applicants Applying Outside India. }}}}

Thanks once again

Raju595 can you comment?

Raju595, You had advised that my spouse should get pcc from all the places in India where she had lived. Now after reading my above post, what is your comment? Please reply.
Thanks in advance

I suggested that because of the way this requirement was
being interpreted earlier.

However I was also looking for input by others who may have
actual experience with this.

From the way the instructions in the website look now, it looks
like JUST ONE PCC from the present area of residence is sufficient, apart from the one from the passpost office.

It may still be a good idea to look for input by others or better
still send the consulate an email and seek advise.
