PCC Fees

Hi,

I'm about to apply for the PCC from the CGI @ SFO. The fee is as below.
PCC Processing fee: $20.00
Mailing Charges: $15.00

I and my husband are applying together. So, will the mailing charge remain 15. Or is it 15*2=30 bucks?

Have you tried calling the consulate and asking??

it is 15 only.they will send two passports in one envelope.
u have send one moneyorder for u and ur husband like (20+20+15)

As VJ pointed if you send e'thing together it should be on $15.

Although (at Houston) they were nice enought to send back our p/ps together (with the same fee) even though the applications were made seperately.

Just my 2 cents since I got my PCC from the CGI at SFO last week. It might be a little tricky to get to the right person to talk to reg your application, but keep trying. Ask for someone in the PCC section when talking abt your application. I feel more confident having gone thro the process. They are very careful in sending your PP back by overnight, give you the tracking # etc.

I sent only my PP, so cant help you with the logistics for two PPs together.

It's pretty much the same at all the consulates.
 
I called today CGI at SFO to enquire about my PCC application and the guy said as it is already a more than a month then just post your passport and we will stamp and send it back.

IS this the usual thing or do I need to wait till CGI will intimate me about sending the passport.

Hi,

I believe that the Consulates wait for a month for any update on your case to come back from India. If nothing comes back (which is normally the case), they issue the PCC. If your passport was issued by the Consulate where you are applying for the PCC, then it’s much shorter -- in D.C. it took me a day to get the PCC.

I got my PCC from SFO and they seem to operate under the rule
"no news is good news", so if they don't receive any adverse information within that period of 30 to 40 days, they go ahead and issue the PCC to the
candidate.

It seems that's what it looks like. Houston sounds pretty similar (when I applied for my wife)
 
Hi, I was told the same thing when I called the consulate a little more than a month after I sent the PP. I waited until the following Monday to courier my PP so that I would have an entire week of working days. Got my PP and PCC back on fri morning by overnight. If you call them, they will give the tracking #. I was very satisfied with the whole experience.

Hi dilbert,
I received my passport stamped today with the PCC letter but dilbert my experience over the phone was not good but the service of passport stamping was good. The whole process took just two days for them to stamp and send it to me (excluding the sending and posting back to me).
 
Out of curisosity, what kind of experience were you expecting from the consualte over the phone?

As dilbert said they give tracking number when you call them, but with me it was different.

When I called on 6/08 the operator said she doen't have any information in her system and she transfferd me to PCC dept and she said wait till a week to recieve it and as my anxiousness was raising I call again on 06/09 it went through same process from operator to dept and this time the lady said wait for two weeks before we can send the passport and to my surprise when I reached home in the evening(06/09) I saw the airbone express delivery note so I called them DHL(airbone) and picked the passport personally. I checked it was duly stamped with a letter.

for CP in chennai, Apart from getting the PCC from CGI in SFO it seems that you have to get the PCC from all the places you lived since age 16. Has anyone any experience of getting a pcc from a local police station in chennai? any idea about how long it takes??

AS per my knowledge gathered from this forum if you have stayed only in India and US and presently you are in US for more than six months then CGI from SFO is more than enough.

But still you can wait for seniors to reply.

That is what i thought too.. But I got this info from immihelp for chennai consulate.. and i got the same from my lawyer too.. thats why i am wondering whats the right one? and how long does it take.

POLICE RECORD
Indian Police Clearance Certificates should be obtained as follows:

All Indian IV applicants aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local Passport Office. These are usually more dependable than those obtained at a local level and indicate that the subject had no serious criminal convictions on record at the time of passport issuance. Applicants whose Indian passport was issued within the past six months may present just the Passport Office Police Certificate, and need not obtain additional police clearances.

Applicants over age 16, whose passports were issued more than six months previous to visa application, must also obtain a police clearance from the District Police Office serving the applicant's place of residence.

Indian passport holders applying for visas outside India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they have no criminal record.

Non-Indian IV applicants residing in India should obtain police certificates from the District Police Station serving their area of residence.

Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) applicants applying outside India.

If you are a US resident and U email to consulate, they will almost always reply that Indian consulate issued PCC is enough.
