pay money back for J-1 expences

Hi all,

My NOS was not approved :(

I got my J-1 from USIS for a three week exchange visitor program. I was wondering if I could pay back the $US 6,000 which in my case USIS spent on me according to the DS form.
Is buying off a J-1 visa an option?
