Someone in th forum said that the photos taken at the biometrics ended up on the naturalization certificate?

I assume when applying for passport you provide a new set of photos and they are what ends up on the final passport?

What's the skinny on photos?

How much time should I spend on makeup before I head out to get my photos done? :)

PS: Wouldn't mind few tips/places to get cheap passport photos? Have to get for more than one family members so it adds up quickly.

For most people these days, the photo they take at biometrics ends up on the naturalization certificate, but for some the photo submitted with the application is put on the certificate.

It used to be standard for them to glue one of the submitted photos onto the certificate, rather than scan it.

Yes, the photo you submit with the passport application will end up on the passport. For the passport you don't necessarily need another set of photos if you have one left over from the photos you took for naturalization. You only need to submit one photo for the passport, and it can be up to 6 months old.

Some Walgreens locations take passport photos, 2 for $11. They use a digital camera and let you see the picture on the screen before they print it.

Enough that you'll be comfortable with carrying that picture on your passport for the next 10 years.

Got it! so looks like the photo on the passport is that one that I need to care much about as far as the looks. Rest all of them will end up some doc which I won't be carrying day to day or during travel.

Thanks J!

and 50 cents or something low for each print thereafter. So get like 10-15 copies made. They are useful to have around

I can't bring myself to be ripped off by the pharmacies charging $12 ($10 after $2 off coupon). I checked with CVS today and they said I will have to pay original price I wanted a second set with two PP pictures.

I will try Walgreens and would be ok with requesting a few additional prints. I may even push my luck and ask for digital copy on a USB stick (so I can simply print as many as I want later) , will take my own USB stick to copy.

Use your camera to take a picture at home and print it in Walgreens for 20 cents for a set of 4 pictures. Use website http://www.idphoto4you.com/ to create your passsport photos. It is good enough for N-400 and for passport applications. That is what I did.

jefkorn, this website below is one that my family and I have used for passport photos and it is just brilliant. You take your own digital photo with the necessary lighting/background and upload to the website. They convert it into 4x6 photo template that you can print out at CVS or whoever for like 25 cents and you get 5 passport photos per photo. The great thing is that they also have the template sizes for other country standards. Note that this has both a free service which I always use and a paid service. They sort of make the free version not easy to find ... just ignore the links that ask you to do the paid service through them (choose the "No thanks" options):

ePassportPhoto.com

All these pharmacy passport photo centers essentially do exactly what ePassportPhoto is doing but they charge you a huge scamming price for this service!

Thanks nkm-oct23 and JPBoston! I have checked out those sites and they are brilliant. My problem seems to be get the proper lighting at home. Those darn shadows don't seem to go away from the wall. I'm not good at using digital photography but saving few bucks for passport photos will give me satisfaction :)

Hey JPBoston, if you don't mind I may ask you some Boston district office questions. I'm in the same district!

Well, have a photo taken against a white background, and, though this is technically not allowed, zoom in and erase any shadows and make the background uniform using Photoshop or other software (I use Paint.net). I haven't paid full price for those photos for years. It's just nuts.
