Hi,

I would like to travel to india (in Nov. 2006) on a valid AP but my current passport expires early March 2007. Is there a requirement for entry into US on AP that your current passport should have at least 6 months validity from your date of entry. Please advise. Thanks.

I'm not sure how any sort of "6-month rule" would apply when you are actually residing in the US, since there is no timeframe for you to leave the US. Instead, I think the rule only really applies for visitors in case they are unable to leave as planned. However, here is a list of countries for which the six month rule is waived: http://foia.state.gov/masterdocs/09fam/0941104X1.pdf. Since India is on this list, I don't think you would have anything to worry about anyway. Of course, you do need to ensure that your passport doesn't actually ever expire because that could cause all sorts of problems.

--Better get new passport from Indian consulate and one can get new PP copy 6 months before PP expires or with any valid reasons they will give you new passport.
