Passport stolen during activation trip!

My husband and I were approved for our green cards in November and my husband travelled to the USA in December to activate his visa.

Sadly, his passport was stolen during this time, and he has since returned to Australia. He has received a new passport and obvious there is no visa for the USA anymore!

We are booked to travel to the USA in January but he does not have possession of his Green Card (still waiting on it to be posted to our address in the USA).

Can he enter the country as a tourist? Or does he need to arrange another visa with the consulate?

Thank you.

No, your husband cannot enter the US as a tourist after activating as a LPR. Did he report the passport stolen? If yes, he can approach the embassy with the police report to see if he could be issued with some temporary permit travel admission document that recognizes his LPR status.

I have found that he can apply for the carrier documentation... to pay the fee, he needs his A-number but I’m not sure what that is... I have a photo of the old visa in his stolen passport, would it be there? Thanks :)

Yes it is listed on the immigrant visa as the “registration number”
