Passport stamping?

My 10 year old son's I-485 was approved 1 month ago, but he hasn't received his plastic card yet. In his I-485 approval letter, it said:

“The above application has been approved. Prior to receiving your permanent resident card you may be required to report for biometrics processing (photo/fingerprint/signature). Please do not take any action at this time. If you are required to report for this processing, you will receive another notice advising you of the date, time and location to appear.”

If you have not received your permanent resident card or the above mentioned notice to appear for biometrics processing within 90 days, please call this office at the number listed below.”

We'd like to visit our home country at the end of this year, and we are concerned that his green card may not arrive in time. Recently, due to the fast processing of plastic cards, people don’t seem to go for passport stamping after I-485 approval. But I’m wondering if we should do this for our son if it works in place of a green card for traveling. Will my son be able to get his passport stamped and travel abroad before he gets his card? I’d really appreciate an advice.

------------------- take the infopass go to local USCIS and if they stamp his passport he can go out and can enter US before the stamp in passport gets expired.
( with passport stamp he may need Transit visa stamp check with airline you book the tickets)

I’d really appreciate an advice.
