passport stamping delayed, need to quit job and move

howdy,
i need some advice regarding the delay of the
passport stamping.
I'm on H1B, six years and finally got invited to interview, fingerprints
taken and signature on little box.
officer says he'll stamp in 2 weeks.
came back and still no stamp 'cause of security clearance .
officer says everything is fine with papers but is waiting for FBI
clearance and told me to come back in a few weeks.
wife lives out of state and needs me to be there asap.
needs hospital stay and care of her son.
i have not rec EAD yet and have read that this security delay could
take a couple of months.
I can't wait that long.
I need to quit job/appt and move out of state to help her.
i'm aware i can't work until stamped or EAD and will fly back in a couple of weeks
to get stamped.
am i risking my greencard now or is it safe to go?
will they check my employer if i still work there?
how long is actual wait for clearance of fbi?
I can't leave her like that and need to go.
i appreciate any advise.

---------- if you have valid AP in hand or valid H1 stamp then you can be back with valid AP or valid H1 stamp, talk to your lawyer before you go out

----------- after the fingerprints FBI normaly sends the results in few days, if it is "name Check" it takes time
I can't leave her like that and need to go.
