Hi, we just got our passports stamped last week and are traveling abroad in September. Assuming we don't have our plastic cards in time, are we allowed to come back through the US Citizen/LPR line at the airport? If so, will we be referred to secondary inspection if all we have are the stamps?

Yes, definitely you can stand on the line for citizen/LPR. Regarding secondary inspection, it depends on the airport. Some airport POEs do that, some don't.

yes,i did..

very recently i did the same thing...reentry to US from Canada with only stamping and there is no problem..(thought it works slightly different this way..the immigration is done in Canada itself)

Also carry the 485 approval notice also...incase if they want to see it.
