passport stamping and name change

here's a question that has been lurking in my mind .... and I need help !!!

once we get approval (hopefully) and I get my passport stamped (passport has maiden name).....and i let the INS officer know about the name change and he/she notes that down for the plastic card info..........at this point we hope that my new last name will appear on the plastic card.....but what to do until then ??? do i need to apply for a new indian passport (which is required in case of a name change) ? if so then I will need to get this new one stamped while I wait for my plastic card ???

how to time all this ? get current passport stamped, submit name change to officer for plastic card and then apply for passport change....this does not make much sense....anyone been through this ??? we are hoping to travel soon after our GC ... so I will need my stamped passport (for proof of permanent residence) and also some visa stamps of other countries (country)........could i just travel on my current passport until we get our plastic cards and then at that point, apply for a new passport........

changed wife's name after stamping

We did request the married name be put in the Plastic Card. Immigration officer was kind enough to do that. My wife got a new passport from Indian Consulate with Married Name after stamping. But she got her old cancelled passport too. Have not yet received the plastIc card yet. So don't know if it is going to have the married name or maiden name. Also she has name changed done with SSA.

has ur wife travelled out of the country and reentered using old passport with GC stamp and new passport with name change ? Any issues ?

What is the name you people used in I-485 paperwork(when you applied it) married or maiden name.

For my wife I am using her married name(name change has been done on passport, but that time they did not used to give new passport, just note the change of name on 3rd page) so I hope her GC would be in married name.

name in I485 paper work is maiden name ..... last name on marriage certificate is also maiden name .........now since we are nearing the end of GC (hopes...hopes...) want to change it to my husband's last name.....did not do it earlier since we did not want any more delays becuase of this ...............
 
Hi hoho, can you please let us know what are the docs provided to INS officer for name change while stamping

lifeonhold - no we have not travelled out since then. The new passport how ever has an notes in last page or so stating that she travelled prior with her maiden name.

pdwaiter - my wife's 485 was filed with her maiden. For the last name change for plastic card, just gave them the Original Marriage Certificate. Immi. Office made a copy of it and returned it back to us.
 
maybe this is not as complicated as I feel ......

hoho --- on ur marraige certificate...did that have just ur wife's maiden name or did it state "name after marriage" ... XX ur last name......reason I am asking is my name is not updated on our marriage certificate as well...it just states maiden name..we wanted to keep it same in all places... thanks in advance
