Passport stamping after I-485 approval

My wife\'s passport is still valid but it will expire in about 5 months. Her I-485 application has been just approved, but I heard that the INS would only stamp her passport if it is valid for at least 6 months. Is this true? Can anyone confirm or deny this?
 
Yes that is correct

Your wife\'s passport has to be valid for more than 6 months to get
the I-551 stamp. My friend faced this same problem with his son\'s
passport. If you are from India You should have no problem. You fill
the necessary forms and the required amount and ask them to send it
to you by fedex. The Round trip right from the time you send it to the time it returns back to you will take 15 to 20 days only.
Please send it by overnight courier. You could call the indian embassy to make sure of the details also.

If you are from another country You will still have to renew her passport but the process and the time taken will naturally be different.

Do all family members need to get their passports stamped and alien cards processed in the same day, or can family members complete this on different dates as needed?
 
well I hope that there will not

be much delay between primary and dependants date of stamping. could u also share how much delay are you expecting between the primary and the other family members.
 
The delay I expect depends on...

...how long it will take until my wife gets her new passport. If we were in New York it would not be an issue, since the consulate for our country there will process a new passport in only 24 hours, but the information I got from the L.A. consulate is that they will take as long as 15 business days (!) to process a new passport application submitted by mail. I was planning to go ahead and get my passport as well as my daughter\'s stamped at the local INS without having to wait until my wife gets her passport renewed. I wouldn\'t think there would be a problem with this, right?

I am fairly sure that it will not be a problem if

a) You and your daughter go in a day or two and your wife goes after 20-25 days or

b) All of you go after 20-25 days

I say this because my friend and his family went to INS after 1 month
