Passport Problems

Hi folks,

I have a quick query regarding passports eligibility. Basically we have completed our green card interview in December and the embassy are waiting on a copy of my babys passport which has just been born last week.

We are Irish citizens living in Spain where the baby was born and basically to obtain an Irish passport it can take 12 weeks where as we can obtain a Spanish one for the baby in one day.

My main point is that myself and my wife have applied through our Irish passports and would need to add the baby on with a Spanish passport, does anyone see why this would be a problem? We need to be in the US before the 8th of June as this is when our medicals run out, therefore realistically we need to have everything completed before the end of April/Middle of May at the latest.

Im thinking that our country of changeability was Ireland, and with the baby having a Spanish passport, where would she be charged to?

It shouldn't make any difference to your process - but obviously the passport you provide will be the one that is registered with the US government.

In terms of chargeability - that comes from the principal winner - the family members will be charged according to whatever the principal winners' chargeability. For instance, my wife won, she is Spanish, so I am chargeable to Spain even though I am British. Same thing for our daughter (UK citizen, chargeable to Spain.)

Go ahead and send in the Spanish passport, it shouldn't make any difference that you and your wife will have your visas on your Irish passports. The baby's country of chargeability will also be Ireland.

Hi buddy!
I have a question about Irish birth certificates.
My 2 daughters were born at Galway University Hospital and they have berth certs. from there, but the US embassy requires:

long-form certificates are serially numbered in the upper left-hand corner, and consist of eleven numbered boxes arrayed horizontally on the page. The certificate should show a stamp or seal by the issuing authority.

Those 2 are not existing on the berth certs. that we have!
Also: Requests for birth certificates can be made directly to the Registrar General, Joyce House, 8-11 Lombard Street East, Dublin 2.
The problem is that when i call them, the lady i was speaking with clearly didn't know what the requirements of US embassy were and she could not give me info how they will look when they will be issued. So next week I will try to go to Dublin to sort it.

My question is, have you issued berth certs for you and your wife???

The difference between "long form" and "short form" birth certs is that the long form has details of BOTH parents which is an important detail for the immigration process (as you later my sponsor your parents).

Thanks Simon.
The problem is that we have already been to our local registry office and lady that work there told us, that since 2004 they issue only long forms. My daughters are born in 2006 and 2012 so on their birth certs data about us (parents) is available in full, there is a water mark on the paper but there is no stamp or seal. Also there is no 11 numbers on the upper left hand corner.
Stamps made be done with authentication? I don't know, but i don't want to be put on AP specially with my high CN for something hidden in details.
Next week we are coming back from Spain and i will try to go to Registrar General wile we are in Dublin.
Thanks for your response!

Hi eliolaz,

We have already issued our copies during the interview in December, although we were born in Belfast and therefore our birth certificates would be different from those in the South of Ireland. If you get time to call to the embassy I'm sure you will get it sorted, usually you can get copies there and then.
