What is passport police certificate?

We received appointment letter for Visa Interview it says applicant need to bring Passport police certificate.

How to obtain this certificate in India ?

Regards,

KM

While I don't know how you obtain this certificate in India, what the Consulate is looking for is for you to go to your local police station, request a clearance from them that you are NOT A CRIMINAL OR HAVE CURRECT CRIMINAL matters pending. It is a documentation to prove that you are a law abiding citizen.

I am sure other persons will provide more information to you.

Hi, I also got the same letter asking me for a passport police certificate. My interview date is in early September. I told them I am in the US for last 5 yrs on legal status. I provided them a PCC from Indian Consulte in the US as well as a PCC from local police station. They want it from a local passport office. i will have to obtain it from Surat Passport office..

Let me know if you already met passpoert office people..what's their procedure..

has anyone be successful in getting a PCC from Surat/local passport office?

Plz share your valuable expereince here..

Thanks

if you go to INS website, you will see all the requirements before you get to interview stage. My parents had to submit following two among others...
i) police certificate from their local station
ii) clearance from Passport office

...apparently the document/clearance they obtained from Passport office is called "passport police certificate" coz their interview checklist indicates it has been submitted. See below cut n paste from their notice...

**********************************************************************

*Police certificates are required for each visa applicant aged 16 years or older, based on
where each applicant lives or has lived previously.
*Police certificates are also required from all other countries where the applicant has resided
more than 12 months. Present and former residents of the United States should NOT obtain
any police certificates covering their residence in the U.S.
*Generally, applications for police certificates should be made directly to the police authorities
in the district in which you resided. The police certificate must:
*Cover the entire period of the applicant's residence in that area, and
*State what the appropriate police authorities records show concerning each applicant,
including all arrests, the reason for the arrest(s), and the disposition of each case of which
there is a record.
*If you have any questions about where or how to apply for police certificates in other
countries, you may communicate directly with the U.S. consular office processing your visa
applications.
NOTE: Police certificates from certain countries are unavailable. Detailed information is
available from the NVC or the nearest United States immigrant visa processing post.

I have my interview in early september and leaving for India soon..

my parents had nightmarish experience. took them months as the original application got 'lost'. they had to reapply and then got it after 2months+.
what they got was a document from regional passport office (letterhead). the cert heading read 'police clearance certificate'. it was signed by someone in ministry of external affairs. the same certificate (for the same person) was printed twice on the same sheet of paper (document).
the passport had a stamped endorsement basically saying there was nothing known to bar my parents receiving the us visa.

their interview is in march. nvc lists 'passport police certificate A'

they have submitted the original document (described above). they were categorically told that that is all - that doc and the stamp in the passport.

are they still missing anything?

when asked whether there will be anything from any police station they were told NO.

they are old. just getting the meds done and going to mumbai for interview is all they can manage now. there is NO way they can manage to get another cert done
what should i do? GOING MAD!!!!
someone please help.
