passport for PR

I am wondering how could some one send his/her passport if required for the PR stamp? I am in US and have applied for myself and my wife's immigration. Say if approved, how would I send my wife's passport here in Detroit as it is illegal to send passport via mail and she could not come here to US either? This is a new pratice and the consulate used to mail the landing papers before, instead of asking the passports in original for the stamp process.
 
who is the main applicant in your application. If its you then u can have yr passport stamped in the US while u are already in the US... remember passport cannot be stamped any ehre else for the main applicant.... then u can request them to stamped yr wife's passport where ever she is that is her country of residence.
