Passport expiring

I have a question about passport expiration. My passport is close to the expiration date and I was wondering how my I-485 application would be affected if I was to renew my passport here in the US.
If I don't renew it and let it expire, then even though I might get the Green Card, I will be without a passport (to be stamped when my Green card finally comes)
I know a person who did get his passport renewed while he was on asylee status and when he got the letter from the INS saying that his Green Card had been approved, he took that letter to the local INS office and they stamped his "renewed" passport with the PR stamp. This happened about 4 years ago.
Thanks for your help.

no

This issue has been discussed an incredible number of times. ]Basically, prudent asylees should NOT renew because it gives the INS a very good excuse to casue you trouble later on.

Why do you need to renew it anyway? You can travel on a refugee travel document. When you adjust, the INS can stamp the refugee travel document or issue you a new I-94.

How are you going to renew your passport? They almost certainly want to see evidence of your status in the United States. Are you going to send your home government a copy of the asylum approval letter????

geez, I am discovering all this important topic, thanks to Gilbert. now what happened if I already renewed my passport, how stupid I am, like you said how am I going to prove to the INS. Gilber any Idea what I should do? I still have a copy of my passport.

thanks
