Passport expiration requirement for H1 stamping

I am planning to get my second h1 stamping from vancouver (first was also at vancouver) later this week and i have a question regarding the passport expiration date requirement.

My passport expires in dec 2007 and my wife's(dependant H4) passport expires in april 2006. I have a new h1 extension from last deecember that runs thru december 2006. Since my passport is valid well after dec 2006, i do not have a problem. But since my wife's passport expires almost 8 months before my h1 extension, will the consulate provide a visa stamp for her? If so, upto what time? If not, is the only option i have is to renew my wife's passport (note that we will not be able to apply for renewing it till april next year)?

Please advice.

--- why take the risk??? she can get new passport 1 year advance from embasy or consulate of your country, if you are from India one can get new passport copy second day in most of Indian consulates

If so, upto what time? If not, is the only option i have is to renew my wife's passport (note that we will not be able to apply for renewing it till april next year)?
--- give the reason to consulate they will renew the passport
