Passport Expiration and Visa Stamping

I am going to canada for visa stamping for my H1 petition that is valid till July 2009. However i overlooked the fact, and just realized that my passport has an expiry date of April 2008. Would this be a problem for visa stamping ? Has anybody been in the same situation ? Have you got a visa stamped and if so till when - expiry date of passport or last date of petition ? Please help ....
