If it helps those applying for new passport

I mailed DS-11 through USPS with expedited service on 04/22 Sat.
It was sent to Philly center.

Case number appeared online on 04/27

Updated as processed and mailed back on 04/28

Received on 04/29

Do you know if it is faster to get a passport by mailing in the application or handing it over at the post office?
Thanx

mailing app directly

I was under the impression that first time passport applicants need to apply thru one of the agencies like USPS, courts or PP agencies so you can read the statement on the app under oath and then sign in the presence of that authorized representative.

If you are applying for renewal, I can only "guess" that once it reaches the PP office whichever way, it will be in the same line ( regu. or expedited )

So, it only took a week to get your passport with expedited service? Did they fold or staple the certificate? Thanks!

3 years back I got my Son (first passport, he was few months old) within 48 hours. I took an apptment with the San Francisco passport office (was available next day at 9.30), gave the application and collected the passport on the same day, at 1pm. But I had to show internations travel tickets. The fees were same as expedited service.

You can't mail your Passport application yourself.

You have to go to an authorized Agent of the Department of State (US Post office is one of them) and submit your application personally.

Yes, it took 8 days for the round trip.

Neither. Extra photo sent was stapled to the Naturalization certi.

I'm debating between regular service and expedited service. I have no immediate travel plans but there is a possibility I might go overseas in mid-June. Does anyone have any experience with regular processing?

I've used regular service. I got my passport in 24 days.

My Passport timeline (regular service) - Shouldn't this be a sticky thread?

Hello

I applied for passport on April 6, 2006 within couple of hours after getting my naturalization certificate.

I went to http://travel.state.gov/passport and used the online fillable form. Took a printout and went to the post office where you will be asked to take a oath. Since I took a regular service, they will send it by priority mail only. You can track your progress on the website and once in a while it will update the status.

According to the website, my passport was processed successfully as of May 2nd, 2006 and sent over by priority mail. Received the passport by priority mail on May 4, 2006

I used expediated service and express mail. Applied 4/22 at a post office in ft lauderdale. Received passport on 4/29. Can't complain. Spend the extra 20$ and use expediated if you have to travel soon.

I mailed it thru local post office, and the postal employee said they are sending all apps to Philly rather than regular New Orleans center.

It takes 3 to 4 days for your case to appear online.
