Hi. I am currently working as a teacher on H1B visa. There is a part-time job being offered to me on weekends as a laundry assistant and for a short period od time, say 3-4 months. What should I do? Should I accept the job? Will this pose a problem with my status at present and will it be a problem for my visa renewal this year?

I hope that you can give me a quick answer to this. I do appreciate all the help you give to those who just like me are worried and confused. Thanks in advance.

Bless you....

Hi,
I believe that you can work for the employer you filed your H-1 only and cannot take other jobs. I would recommend that you maintain this status because any violation may affect you when filing for GC. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks!

Just for the thought of it. How would USCIS track unauthorized part-time jobs like those? I know some who are on H1B and still enjoy small part-time jobs; yet they were not penalized. On my case, I am really worried because I do renew my H1B every year. This is my 2nd year here and I don't want to have complications whatsoever.

Again, thanks for the input.

Whenever you gets paid from part time job employer , your tax deductions and SSN goes into record. It is vey easy to track whether you are working to legal sponser or illegally.

Now you will not face any problem, when your GC comes to adjustment of status your GC get rejected you may not able to get your GC at all. Now getting few dollors ruin your entire life.

Choice is yours.

Laudry money>? or no green card?

Thanks!

Thanks, great guru!

Yeah, you are right! The little extra money I'll earn from the weekend job (for only 3 months because I am suppose to take a friend's post due to maternity leave) is not worth it. I actually told the manager/owner about this matter and she understood.

Thanks for your guidance. This is a great site! :)

One recruiter as sponsor, 2 jobs

Hi, Great guru,
I'm on OPT but my H-1 has been filed on 2nd April,07 by my recruiter. I'm working in an engineering company and paid as H-1 min wages. I see other part time jobs too and those are related to somewhat my field but they are tech jobs and quite less paid [ less than h-1 wages].
Despite the wages fact, Can I do the 2 jobs under one recruiter who is my sponsor. They file my H-1 in california though and I work in MN. Reason I'm doing that becuase some time I don't get enough hours at my engineering job and I don't want to quite that at this time becuase my H-1 is at stake.
thanks
