Parents need to leave US before the extension approval

We sent the their application of extension of stay in early May and received the receipt notice. We have booked the tickets for them to fly back home next week. Now the question is: we have not received the approval from INS yet, what needs to be done when they leave the contry? They have their original I-94. Please share your experience.

i have the same issues too..

since their current I94 is expired, won't it look like they have overstayed?
When we finally receive the extension notice, can we mail that to the airport database?

On calling the BCIS, they said that a person can stay back legally after you receive the receipt notice. You can check with them for clarification purposes.
