Parents Interview gone wild

Hi I have a quick question- My mother had an interview yesterday and the officer told her that she had to present another document if Birth certificate was not available. The affidavit that she supplied was not enough. She wants an offical document from the gov of India stating that this person doesnot have a birth certificate. ANyways, we asked if we could present it in the next week or so and she said No the application has already been submitted. She said she was going to pass it on to her supervisor for review and will hear something in the next 60-90 days. So we are in limbo now. Does anyone have a similar experience and what was the result? (Applied from NJ.)

My mother needs to travel and we are going to apply for an AP today, what is the time line for that- some of the links says 2 months? Is AP just a letter or is it an actual card?

When we submitted I-130, I-485, I-131, and I-765 back in August, we made a copy of her birth certificate as well as a copy of her baptism certificate. My wife's birth certificate is worn out. So we made a copy of her baptism certificate as well. We have not received any RFE and have an interview on 11/04/10 now. By the way, we received AP within 8 weeks. We are still waiting on EAD that should be delivered soon.
